Excellence in Precision Lapping & Machining
Microbas is a global leader in precision lapping and machining of metals and exotic materials such as granite, diabase and Zerodur.
Precision Lapping
Precision lapping is an abrasive method where a lapping tool and a slurry is used to make objects with fine tolerances in flatness and parallelism. The slurries are normally water and an abrasive powder like silicon carbide in different grit sizes. We work with lapping machines, but in order to create the fine tolerances in objects the size we machine, manual lapping is often required as a final step. In many cases precision lapping and machining are required in many different steps in order to achieve the specified accuracy.
Milling & Grinding
Grinding and Milling
Microbas has an extraordinary set of machines in terms of size and capabilities, for example:
- CNC milling up to 2000x1800x1100 mm, full 5-axis
- CNC ultrasonic milling up to 750x600x520 mm, full 5-axis
- Grinding up to 5000x1600x1500 mm & 4000x2000x800 mm
Metrology & QA
Metrology & Quality Assurance
Understanding how to measure and understanding the impacts external factors have on your measurement result are our core competencies and a fundamental factor for our existence at Microbas! We often work with parts and products that are used to measure other things or with applications requiring more accuracy than common Contact Measurement Machines can deliver. This means that for three dimensional measurement we need to use more traditional and time consuming methods to verify our quality. To create the flatness and parallelism many of our customers need means measuring the same piece with an Autocollimator or a Talyvel many times a day to follow the progress of abrasing thousandths of a millimeter away at the right place.
