High Precision Motorbeam
Linear movement for the 21st century
Precision beyond off-the-shelf linear units
In a world where higher yields and ever more precise products are constantly required, an increasing number of machine building companies are finding it difficult to reach their targets with market-standard mechatronics components from the large providers.
One of our clients had exactly this problem and turned to us to manufacture a lightweight motor beam for linear movements with far more precision and with higher capability than normal linear units could provide.
The result is a 2.4 m long motor beam with body machined from solid aluminium that went through the bespoke Microbas processes for eliminating inner stress. The body is then equipped with two hard-anodized aluminium guiding bars that are assembled and carefully aligned onto the body with a flatness tolerance of 3 µm/100 mm and the two bars are parallel within 0.1 mm over the full length.
Over the last 10 years Microbas has delivered a number of these beams fitted with a linear motor that flies over an aerostatic-bearing, performing millions of operations per year in a critical process step in the electronics industry.
